Diamond Care
If you want to keep your diamond engagement or wedding rings looking their best, soaking them in a mixture of dishwashing liquid and water is an excellent way to go.
However, not all types of settings can handle this method. For example, prong and cathedral settings can be soaked for up to 30 minutes, but pave, and basket settings may be more susceptible to gem detachment if soaked. Therefore, it’s essential to be cautious and mindful before soaking any jewellery.
Use mild dish soap and warm water to soak your jewellery for a few minutes. Then, gently scrub the metal before rinsing it thoroughly with a soft cloth or cotton swab. If necessary, you can repeat the process, but always proceed cautiously when soaking your valuable jewellery.
Cleaning your Diamond Jewelry
To remove dirt that’s stuck between the prongs and diamonds, toothpicks can come in handy. However, be very cautious not to scratch the metal or change the position of a prong.
If fibers from cloth get stuck in the setting, use tweezers to gently remove them. Again, take care not to damage the metal. While diamonds are scratch-resistant, the precious metals they’re set in can be scratched easily.
When it comes to storing your diamond jewellery, make sure to keep it separate from other jewellery. Remember that diamonds can scratch not only any other jewellery you have but also each other. Therefore, avoid storing two diamond pieces in a way that they touch each other.
