Anatomy
Every diamond is unique, but all diamonds have certain essential features that determine their size, brilliance, scattering, and sparkle. Understanding a diamond’s anatomy, or basic structure, can help you find the perfect diamond for you.
A diamond is composed of eight main components, each with its own name and specific role in the overall appearance of the diamond.
The eight components of a diamond are:
Width – The distance across the widest part of the diamond.
Table – The flat, top surface of the diamond.
Crown – The upper portion of the diamond, located between the table and the girdle.
Table Spread – The width of the table expressed as a percentage of the diamond’s overall width.
5. Girdle – The narrow band around the widest part of the diamond.
6. Pavilion – The lower portion of the diamond, located below the girdle.
7. Depth – The height of the diamond from the table to the culet.
8. Culet – The tiny, flat facet at the bottom of the diamond.
Understanding these eight components and their location in the diamond can help you choose the right diamond for your needs and budget. By considering each of these elements, you can determine the diamond’s overall quality and ensure that you find a truly flawless diamond.
